For the first time in the history of American Idol, the announcement of the Top 24 will be done in two shows.
There is speculation that FOX wants to drive up viewership over two nights, so they are splitting the results over two shows.
Last night, the 71 remaining contestants from Hollywood Week were divided into three rooms, with one of the rooms going home, leaving 46 Idol hopefuls. Seven of them were named to the Top 24; the rest being named tonight.
The lucky seven are: Mike Lynche, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Didi Benami, Todrick Hall, Lee Dwyze and Katelyn Epperly.
To recap, Mike is the new dad from Florida, Casey, the blonde guitarist that judge Kara is smitten with, Aaron, the 16-year-old who had a tough time on the lyrics of “Arms of an Angel,” Didi, whose best friend was killed in a car accident and who wowed the judges with “Terrified,” Todrick, the top R&B guy, that sang “I’m Yours” blowing the others away, Lee, another guitarist, who performed “You Found Me” and gave a heartfelt thank-you speech, and Katelyn, the curly, blonde-haired singer, that sang “Bubbly.”
So far, I see this as a contest between the “Folkies” and the R&B singers. What do you think? Was someone cut that you think should have made it further? Will the winner come out of this group?
