VIE’s Pick of the Week

A few years ago, when I bought my first pair of Toms, I was inspired. I was inspired by the idea that my love for shopping could actually do some good in the world. The concept of shopping for a cause is a very appealing one to me, personally. So, when I came across Sseko (pronounced say-ko) Designs, I was inspired again.
Sseko Designs are beautifully crafted leather sandals that have interchangeable fabric straps that can be styled in hundreds of different ways. The fabric straps come in more than 20 different colors and patterns, so there are straps for every outfit and occasion! There is even a line of wedding sandals that would be ideal for a beach wedding. The Sseko Designs website even has tutorial videos on how to tie your straps in different styles.

What’s even more amazing than the sandals themselves is the story behind each and every sandal.
Sseko Designs is based out of Uganda where they provide sustainable, fair-wage employment to women. Their primary focus is on providing employment for Ugandan girls who have recently graduated high school so that they can earn money that will go directly towards their college education. Sseko is providing a way for women in Uganda to end the cycle of poverty and pursue their dreams at the same time.

Sseko Designs is using fashion to empower women. You can become a part of their story at www.ssekodesigns.com
