BRING IT ON: The Musical Comes to Niceville Jan. 23

Bitingly relevant and sprinkled with sass, BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL will take you on high-flying journey through friendship, forgiveness and determination, when the national touring production hits the mainstage of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville on January 23, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL features a colorful cast of characters, an exciting fresh sound, explosive dance with aerial stunts, and an all new story loosely based on the 2000 film of the same name that focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading. With witty dialogue, zingingly clever songs and inventive visuals, the show has been praised for its high-energy performances and story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme competition.

Tickets to BRING IT: ON THE MUSICAL are on sale now from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center’s Box Office and a special group discount is available. Tickets are $40 each and $35 for groups of 10 or more tickets purchased together. Call (850) 729-6000 Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm or purchase tickets online at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org. The Box Office is also open from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. the night of the show for at-the-door sales of any remaining seats.

The phone and in-person Box Office is closed December 18 to January 1 for the holidays, but the online Box Office is open over the entire holiday break. Those who purchase tickets online during the holidays will be sent tickets following the New Year or may elect to have tickets held in will call. The musical comedy made its Broadway debut on August 1, 2012 at the St. James Theatre, and played through December 30, 2012. The production earned Tony nominations for Best Musical and Best Choreography, and The New York Times called it, “Impossible to resist!” with “Breathtaking display of human fireworks” and Newsday enthused “A genuinely high-flying, hyper-gymnastic and surprisingly savvy-sweet musical.”

Uniting some of the freshest and funniest creative minds on Broadway, BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL features an original story by Tony® Award winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), music by Pulitzer and Tony Award- winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), lyrics by Broadway lyricist Amanda Green (High Fidelity) and music supervision by Tony and Grammy® Award winner Alex Lacamoire (In The Heights).
Varsity, the national cheerleading organization, has been a consultant for BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL since its inception. Director and choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (In the Heights). immersed himself in the cheerleading culture by reaching out to Varsity, the global leader in cheerleading camps, competitions, and uniforms, for guidance on the show.
The design team includes scenic design by Drama Desk Award winner David Korins (Pee-Wee Herman Show), costume design by Andrea Lauer (American Idiot), lighting design by Jason Lyons (Rock of Ages), sound design by Cody Spencer and video design by Jeff Sugg (Magic/Bird).

There is a $2 Box Office processing fee on all tickets. The Mattie Kelly Arts Center is located on eastern edge of the Niceville campus of Northwest Florida State College at 100 College Boulevard. The $25 million state-of-the-art performance venue boasts: a 1,650 seat mainstage theater which annually hosts a slate of national touring Broadway shows and events, as well as two art galleries, a recital hall, amphitheater, and other performance and fine arts instructional space.
