The eighth annual Cottages for Kids will take place in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin from October 31 through November 9 and will debut designer cottages for all to see. Grand Boulevard’s Grand Park will be transformed into a small village with cottages that look like they have popped out from the pages of a fairytale to modern creations brimming with creativity. Using a lot of imagination, hard work and a little elbow grease, area builders are hard at work finalizing their creations for this year’s event.

October 27 was a great day for children in Walton County who may be experiencing the ordeal of abuse, abandonment or neglect. Amidst great fanfare, including a $1 million donation by the Pierce Family, the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC) held their official ground breaking for a new center that is expected to open in early 2016.

The 2014 30A Charity Golf Classic raised $27,706 for Alaqua Animal Refuge. The second annual event was held on Saturday at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club and was presented by The Aesthetic Clinique.

The vision for the new Alaqua Animal Refuge is to create a wildlife preserve that will strive to stop human-induced animal suffering and abuse before it happens, through exposure and education. The proposed 85-acre facility will include some hands-on interactive learning opportunities and close-up wildlife experiences for children and adults alike.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Chef Kevin Korman will present a delectable five-course meal thoughtfully prepared with ultimate cancer-fighting ingredients throughout the month of October at Caliza Restaurant in Alys Beach, Florida.
